Shenmue III received’t be launched in 2018, however you knew that already

You’ve been ready 17 years for Shenmue III – what’s yet another yr between pals? Sure, a delay till till 2019 makes the time between the wildly successful Kickstarter for Yu Suzuki’s white whale and its eventual actuality leap to 4 years, however I believe all of us knew this was inevitable.

Publishers Deep Silver quietly announced the delay right this moment, which means it received’t make its deliberate second-half of 2018 launch – itself a delay from the originally-planned 2017 completion date. The second sequel to what was on the time probably the most costly video games ever made, Shenmue III was at all times going to contain a certain quantity of taking pictures for the moon. While Deep Silver don’t go into element about what, precisely, nonetheless wants doing or enhancing, they do say that “The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe.”

Creative lead Yu Suzuki added in a Kickstarter update that “To all of our backers, we are very sorry for the delay. After much discussion with our partners, Deep Silver, we have concluded that extending the release will allow us to deliver Shenmue III at its best. We promise to use this time to improve the quality of Shenmue III. We cannot thank you enough for your enduring support.”

Seems honest to me, although I think about there are a number of damaged hearts proper now. If you’re gonna make (or, certainly, crowdfund) a vastly formidable action-adventure-everything recreation with an open world and brawling and minigames and characters with lives and all that, why would you not wish to give it daily of improvement it might presumably get? On the opposite hand, you don’t need it to spend years drifting ever-further into the stratosphere, I assume. We all know the tales.

While we look ahead to 2019, the excellent news is that the primary two Shenmues are finally PC-bound this yr.
