In an extensive interview, former Scream star Melissa Barrera addressed the controversy surrounding her abrupt departure from the franchise. The actress was dismissed by Spyglass Media due to her public statements regarding the Israel-Gaza conflict.

Her exit, coupled with the subsequent departures of Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon, forced a complete overhaul of the Scream 7 screenplay, with franchise veteran Kevin Williamson stepping in to direct.

While Barrera acknowledged that the firing significantly impacted her professional reputation, she maintains that the franchise suffered as well. Addressing reports that the seventh installment achieved record-breaking box office success, Melissa boldly asserted that the studio “lied about the numbers,” insisting that the film could not have possibly generated that amount of revenue.

It is worth noting that the latest chapter in the Ghostface slasher series ultimately grossed $214 million worldwide, with $63 million earned during its opening weekend.
