Sarah Bond confirms new Xbox is already in advanced development stage

Following the announcement of her departure as President of Xbox, Sarah Bond issued a formal address to her team, revealing that “the next-generation console is already in an advanced stage of development.” She indicated that she is moving on to pursue her “next personal and professional chapter,” a move that comes as a surprise to many who viewed her as the natural successor to Phil Spencer.

Reflecting on her eight-year tenure, Bond highlighted several landmark achievements, including the rapid expansion of PC and cloud gaming. She also emphasized the success of Xbox’s multiplatform strategy, which has been instrumental in extending the ecosystem’s reach to diverse devices and global audiences.

The continued progress on hardware development serves as a clear signal that this leadership transition will not disrupt the roadmap for the next generation of Xbox consoles.

Bond pointed to the 2022 acquisition of Activision Blizzard as a defining moment that accelerated the brand’s transformation. To ensure a seamless handover, she will remain as a special advisor to her successor, Asha Sharma. Simultaneously, Matt Booty has been promoted from his role overseeing Xbox Game Studios to serve as Chief Content Officer.

According to Bond, the gaming industry is currently navigating a profound technological shift. She expressed confidence that the incoming leadership will spearhead this next era of growth, maintaining momentum on current initiatives while preparing for the arrival of future hardware.
