“Unholy” or otherwise, Sam Smith is looking definitely magnificent in a freshly exposed picture.
On Wednesday (July 31), London’s National Gallery unveiled the most up to date version to their collection: a spectacular picture of the “Stay With Me” vocalist developed by Pierre Commoy and Gilles Blanchard (far better understood by their twin tag, Pierre et Gilles). The brand-new art work– labelled Gloria after Smith’s 4th workshop cd– illustrates Smith worn a white toga and gold laurel crown, as huge angelic wings grow from their back in a divine place.
The brand-new item, which Smith lent to the National Gallery from their very own individual collection, signs up with the gallery’s “History Makers” show, which “brings visitors face-to-face with some of the country’s most important and influential” individuals, according to a news release.
“I have admired the beautiful work of Pierre et Gilles for years, their incredible portraits of icons like Jean Paul Gaultier and Marc Almond are truly iconic, and to sit for them was a dream come true,” Smith stated in a declaration. “I was so happy when the National Portrait Gallery asked me if they could loan the piece. It’s very important to me to support the arts. Being in their new ‘History Makers’ section is an honour.”
