LISA Yeyoung Choi

LISA has released Press Play, her first solo EP, and it leads this week’s picks in Billboard’s Friday Music Guide. The list also includes two Miley songs on the Nobody Wants This season three soundtrack, a new Kacey Musgraves single from her just-announced Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes, and a new John Mayer single on his newly launched label. Last week’s guide featured Olivia Rodrigo feat. Chappell Roan, Tate McRae, Zach Bryan and Angèle.

The EP is led by the pop-rap single “SaWaDiKa,” which came out in September. Focus track “Tarantino” is also a hard-hitting song, “Cobra” is a dance-pop track, and closer “Sweat” ends with the instruction “don’t stress me out.” Press Play follows LISA’s 2025 debut solo full-length, Alter Ego, and arrives ahead of the Thai singer’s Las Vegas residency, which begins in November. — LYNDSEY HAVENS

Miley, “Cold Blooded”

Miley has released “Cold Blooded,” a song she wrote in the late 2010s ahead of her EP She Is Coming that went unreleased until now. A demo of the piano ballad is a bonus track on the season three soundtrack for Nobody Wants This, which is out now. It is one of two Miley demos on the album. A stripped-down version of “You,” from her album Endless Summer Vacation, also appears on the soundtrack and in an episode. The soundtrack is out on Atlantic, and all 10 episodes of season three are streaming on Netflix. — L.H.

Kacey Musgraves is previewing Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes, due Jan. 15 on Lost Highway Records, with new music that includes “Weekend In Texas.” In the song, she sings about having the hat and the cattle to back up her claim that things will be fine in her favorite state of mind. Horns and a steady groove accompany her vocals as she describes wanting a few restorative days of escape in the Lone Star State. — JESSICA NICHOLSON

John Mayer, “Tom and Jerry”

John Mayer’s “Tom and Jerry” opens with a soft rock riff that, according to Billboard, recalls Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire.” Mayer sings “I’m never gonna catch you,” which sets up the song’s metaphor comparing the cat-and-mouse friendship of the cartoon characters to a relationship in which the two people may never get it right. Mayer explained the song’s origin in an Instagram caption: “‘Tom and Jerry’ was the name I used when saving my first voice memo with this song idea.” He then quoted a line from the song about running away with someone who comes through, and wrote: “From that moment on, the adventure began in bringing that feeling to life.” The single is out on Mayer’s newly launched Sob Rock Records label in partnership with Mercury. — L.H.

Dominic Fike has shared “Pangea” from his third album, How To Quit Smoking, whose release was pushed to Oct. 30. Billboard compares the song to a modern recording of an Atmosphere track, pairing melodic rapping with sunny, uptempo production. It runs just under two and a half minutes. — L.H.

Girl In Red, “Missing Person”

Norwegian indie-pop singer Girl In Red has released a four-song EP titled BLUE about the heartbreak of a breakup. Earlier this month she began teasing the project by changing her Instagram handle to @girlinblue and updating her bio to read “once red, now blue.” “Missing Person” opens with images of a hole in a door shaped like an ex’s silhouette and a void in her chest that grows over time. The song then turns to accountability, as she acknowledges her own actions during the absence and asks whether anyone has seen the girl she blew it with. — L.H.

Yung Miami, Watch Dis!

Yung Miami has released Watch Dis, her debut solo studio album. It follows “Spend Dat,” the New York Knicks-approved single that Billboard counts among the biggest hip-hop hits of 2026. The 21-track album features Travis Scott, Summer Walker, Trina, Quavo and others. According to Billboard, the City Girls alum builds an autobiography around the history and culture of her hometown. — KYLE DENIS

John Legend, Muse

John Legend has released Muse, a 16-track album made with Oscar-nominated producer Pharrell Williams, their first full album together after 20 years of friendship. Legend had already worked with Williams and Clipse on “The Birds Don’t Sing,” a standout on the Clipse album Let God Sort Em Out. Muse was primarily written and recorded at Williams’ Louis Vuitton HQ studio in Paris. It combines string arrangements, horns and 808s in what Legend calls a “Black James Bond aesthetic.” — K.D.
