Ryan Gosling Prematurely Joins the SNL 5-Timers Club: “Oh My God, It’s Just 4”
Ryan Gosling appears to have gotten ahead of himself while preparing for his return to Saturday Night Live. The actor, who has spent the week rehearsing for his latest stint at 30 Rock, seems to have lost count of exactly how many times he has graced the Studio 8H stage.
In a humorous promotional clip released Wednesday, the Barbie star is seen swaggering through the legendary hallways with the confidence of a seasoned veteran. Embracing a full “diva” persona, Gosling casually tosses a lit cigarette into cast member Tommy Brennan’s drink and sets Mikey Day’s headshot ablaze. The absurdity reaches a fever pitch when Gosling mounts a prop horse and douses the stage in champagne—only for Day to interrupt the celebration and ask what on earth he is doing.
“Five-Timers Club, Michael,” Gosling declares, proudly gesturing to his ornate SNL velvet smoking jacket. “Read it and weep.”
Day is then forced to break the news to the Notebook star: this Saturday’s episode actually marks his fourth time hosting. Consequently, Gosling is still one appearance away from joining the prestigious circle of frequent hosts that includes icons like Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Kristen Wiig, and John Mulaney.
“Oh my god, it’s just four,” Gosling realizes, his confidence momentarily shattered. He quickly tries to save face, adding, “I’m sure someone’s made this mistake before.”
The upcoming broadcast will feature the Golden Globe winner—who recently dominated the Billboard Hot 100 with his hit “I’m Just Ken”—alongside musical guest Gorillaz. The band’s classic track “Clint Eastwood” provides the rhythmic backdrop for the new teaser. Following Gosling’s appearance, the show will keep the momentum going the following week with Harry Styles taking on double duty as both host and performer.
Gosling’s previous hosting credits include memorable turns in 2015, 2017, and early 2024. You can watch the full promo featuring his premature celebration in the video above.
