Russo Brothers Say They Are Not Fixing All Marvel Universe Mistakes in Avengers: Doomsday

The Russo brothers do not view Avengers: Doomsday as an attempt to fix all the problems of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a single film.

During an interview with the Associated Press, Anthony Russo was asked whether the new crossover is supposed to set the franchise straight after several poorly received projects.

“It’s part of the unique challenge. In our collaboration with Marvel, we’ve always valued that our job is not to be in charge of the entire cinematic universe. We intersect with it at a specific point, and we can figure everything out there.”
Anthony Russo

At the same time, the directors have previously indicated multiple times that the events of Doomsday will significantly alter the MCU. In May, Joe Russo called the film a “complete reinvention” and stated that viewers do not expect its events, tone, or themes:

“I think audiences have zero expectation for what is going to happen in the movie. Hopefully, it will be another profound shift in this ongoing story.”
Joe Russo

At SXSW London, the brothers also referred to Doomsday as a return to “Phase Zero” and a fresh start. The film is scheduled to premiere on December 18, 2026.
