RuneScape: Dragonwilds, an Open-World Survival Game, Launches on PS5 as a PlayStation Plus Title Later This Year

Jagex has officially confirmed that RuneScape: Dragonwilds—the ambitious open-world survival experience that debuted in Steam Early Access last year—is making the leap to PlayStation 5 later this year. While the title currently carries a $29.99 price tag on PC, the console release will be included at no extra cost for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers.

This launch marks a significant milestone: for the first time in its quarter-century history, a core entry in the RuneScape franchise is arriving on consoles. Although it departs from the traditional MMORPG mechanics of the original RuneScape, the game has already proven its appeal, moving over one million copies during its time in Early Access. The news was shared during the latest PlayStation State of Play, accompanied by a fresh trailer showcasing the game’s expansive fantasy world.

In Dragonwilds, players are thrust into the forgotten continent of Ashfall, where the awakening of ancient dragons serves as the catalyst for an epic survival quest. Whether playing solo or with a group of up to three friends, you are tasked with dismantling the reign of the Dragon Queen. The gameplay loop centers on unearthing remnants of long-lost civilizations, mastering intricate magical systems, and constructing an elaborate medieval stronghold. Along the way, players will contend with iconic foes like Black Knights and Zogres, as well as new threats like the formidable Garou, all set to an immersive soundtrack that blends reimagined classics with entirely original compositions.

“Expanding the reach of Dragonwilds—and its unique blend of survival, crafting, and quintessential RuneScape charm—to the PlayStation 5 is a vital step in bringing our vision to a wider audience,” said Jesse America, executive producer, in a recent statement. “We are thrilled to offer the game through PlayStation Plus. It opens the doors for more players to join forces, explore the perilous landscapes of Ashenfall, and hone their skills in a world brimming with challenges.”

While an exact launch date is yet to be announced, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 5 before the end of the year.
