Rumor: Bluepoint Games wanted to work on Bloodborne and Resistance remakes, but Sony refused

Sony has reportedly deemed Bluepoint Games’ remake and remaster pitches as financially underwhelming.

Bluepoint Games reportedly presented Sony with various remake and remaster concepts for the PlayStation 5, but none successfully transitioned into active development. This information comes from former employees via Green Zone Bites.

According to these sources, the studio pitched revivals for Jak & Daxter and Resistance, along with an enhanced PlayStation 5 version of Shadow of the Colossus. The latter was reportedly a primary focus of their discussions.

The commercial history of Shadow of the Colossus remains complex. While the PS4 version didn’t meet sales expectations, Sony greenlit its production largely due to the advocacy of Shuhei Yoshida, the then-president of Sony Worldwide Studios, who championed the project for its artistic merit.

For the proposed PS5 iteration, Bluepoint intended to go beyond a simple resolution boost. Their plan included restoring four to six colossal bosses that were famously omitted from the original PS2 release.

Additionally, the studio twice sought permission to tackle a Bloodborne remake. The initial 2021 proposal was rejected—reportedly due to strained relations between Sony and FromSoftware. In 2025, Bluepoint revisited the idea and spent three months in pre-production before the project was once again shuttered.
