Robert Downey Jr. Criticizes the Popularity of Influencers

Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. has voiced his skepticism regarding the immense popularity of social media influencers. During his appearance on the Conversations for our Daughters podcast, the actor dismissed the phenomenon as “total nonsense.” Downey expressed concern that people are frequently achieving fame without any substantive achievements, noting that this trend may be detrimental to individual development. However, he stopped short of labeling the shift as entirely negative.

“When I hear people say influencers are the future stars, I wonder what kind of world they are living in, because it all sounds like complete nonsense to me,”

— the actor asserted.

Downey acknowledged that his own 14-year-old son has been influenced by these modern trends, yet he conceded that, even within the influencer sphere, there are still individuals who remain “grounded and normal.”

The actor himself prefers to maintain a distance from social media, despite his significant following. He deliberately avoids cultivating an illusion of intimacy with fans and strives to keep the details of his private life out of the public eye.
