Road Trip: Atlas
Today, we are thrilled to unveil an immersive new gameplay mechanic heading to American Truck Simulator alongside the upcoming Road Trip expansion. Join us as we take a deep dive into Atlas!

We know many of you have been curious about the fresh experiences the Road Trip update will introduce, and Atlas is designed specifically to answer that call. Built entirely around the joy of exploration, this system prompts drivers to seek out, visit, and learn fascinating details about hand-picked destinations scattered across the vast virtual landscape of American Truck Simulator. Along your journey, you’ll encounter iconic landmarks, hidden local secrets you might have otherwise missed, and rich historical trivia tied to each location.

Accessing Atlas is seamless—simply open your in-game desktop and navigate to the Navigation tab. The beating heart of this feature is a network of Tourist Boards spread out across the map. Choosing a Tourist Board within the Atlas menu sets your GPS destination straight to it. Upon arrival, a curated list of regional highlights and exploration sites will unlock in the surrounding area.

Your primary objective is to visit every designated point of interest linked to that specific Tourist Board. These encompass a mix of intriguing Points of Interest, scenic Viewpoints, and rewarding Photo Trophies.

Points of Interest represent a brand-new category of discoverable location. Unlike traditional Viewpoints or Photo Trophies, there is no need to halt your vehicle or interact with a specific trigger zone; simply driving through the marked perimeter automatically logs the area as discovered. Furthermore, the game allows you to revisit any unlocked Point of Interest via the Atlas or your Gallery, where a live camera feed displays the real-time status of the location—complete with your parked vehicle if you happen to leave it there!

Whenever you successfully uncover a new site, a sleek on-screen widget alerts you to the milestone (which can be customized or toggled off entirely in your settings). Accompanied by a subtle, rewarding audio cue, the site transitions to an explored status in your log. You will also unlock a concise, engaging summary filled with local lore, which remains accessible indefinitely through the Atlas interface.

Clearing every linked location associated with a Tourist Board marks that board as fully completed. As a token of your achievement, you will be awarded an exclusive, regionally themed postcard designed to decorate your vehicle’s dashboard. You are always free to return to the Atlas menu to review your discoveries, reread lore entries, or rewatch any unlocked cinematics.

This feature will be available to anyone who owns either of the Road Trip DLC expansions: the Ford Car Pack or the RAM & Dodge Car Pack. Best of all, Atlas isn’t restricted strictly to cars—you can fully experience and enjoy this feature from the cab of your favorite heavy-duty truck as well!

At launch, Atlas Tourist Boards will be active across California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota. We plan to roll out support for additional states gradually over time.

We hope you are as excited about this fresh gameplay addition as we are! To prepare for the update, make sure to add both the Ford Car Pack and the RAM & Dodge Car Pack to your Steam wishlist.
