Academy Award winners Renée Zellweger (Bridget Jones’s Diary) and Sissy Spacek (Carrie) have signed on to star in the upcoming family drama A Woman in the Sun, according to a report by Deadline.
The cast also includes Mia Threapleton (The Phoenician Scheme). The film centers on Claire (Zellweger), a bartender whose life is upended when she learns of her mother’s illness (Spacek) and faces the unexpected return of her own daughter (Threapleton). Faced with these challenges, she must confront her past to forge a path toward a more hopeful future.
The project marks the directorial debut of Julia Cox (screenwriter of Nyad and The Last Tycoon), with production slated to begin this September. Zellweger recently made an appearance in the fifth season of Only Murders in the Building, while Spacek was most recently seen in Die, My Love.
