RAM prices have surged to record levels. The cost of some DDR5 kits has risen by as much as 250% since early November.
For example, 16 GB Kingston Fury modules in the U.S. jumped from $62.99 to $149.99, 32 GB T-Force kits rose from $96.99 to $339.99, and 64 GB Corsair Vengeance kits climbed from $239.99 to $839.99.
The memory shortage has thrown the market into turmoil: some retailers have begun listing RAM at \”market prices.\” Manufacturers cannot provide a clear timeline for when prices will fall — restoring supplies could take months or even years.
The main driver of the surge is the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure. Companies are snapping up memory and storage, willing to pay premiums over consumer prices, which intensifies the shortage.
Dan Nistedt, Vice President of Research at TriOrient, said:
This could significantly impact PCs, laptops, consumer electronics, and vehicles that rely on low-cost memory chips.
Experts do not expect prices to drop quickly — the shortage and elevated costs may persist for a long time.
