Sony released an advertisement focused on Genshin Impact that explains why the game is leaving the PS4. The company says the title has expanded in scope and now requires more powerful hardware than the aging console can offer.
Earlier, HoYoverse confirmed that support for the PS4 version will end on April 8, 2026. Players will be able to continue their adventures on PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and mobile devices.
The explanation has met with skepticism from the community: Genshin Impact is not generally viewed as a technically demanding title, especially compared with large-scale releases such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which still come out on PS4. Many argue Sony is simply using the situation to accelerate the transition of users to the PlayStation 5.
Sony may also have played a part in HoYoverse’s decision, since Genshin Impact remains one of the top-grossing games in Asian markets and regularly receives PlayStation Partner Awards — most recently in 2024.
