Project Zomboid First and Third-Person Mod Enters Testing
The project is currently at a very early stage.
In late September, a modder named kolpaque introduced the “PZ3D” project for the popular survival game. They position it as a framework designed to move the camera directly behind the character, replacing the original game’s isometric perspective, and to ensure gameplay mechanics function properly with the changed viewpoint.
The developer published several gameplay examples showing that Project Zomboid can be played from a third-person over-the-shoulder perspective or a first-person perspective. When using melee weapons in first-person mode, the camera may glitch and players might see the character’s back during those moments:
The “PZ3D” modification for Project Zomboid is available for free through the Steam Workshop. Because the project is still at a very early stage of development, various bugs may occur.

Some players have raised security concerns regarding PZ3D because it requires the ZombieBuddy framework. kolpaque explained that PZ3D needs to load Java code and modify engine behavior beyond the capabilities of standard modding tools:
ZombieBuddy provides that access. Replacing it would require a different mechanism with similar capabilities and the risks associated with them.
