Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum hinted on Thursday (May 7) that global superstars BTS might return to Mexico in 2027. This exciting prospect follows the band’s landmark visit to the National Palace the previous day, where they made a historic appearance on a balcony to wave at an estimated 50,000 cheering fans gathered below.
During her daily morning press briefing, the President shared footage of her meeting with the seven members of BTS inside the presidential residence. In the video, Sheinbaum is seen engaging directly with the group, asking in Spanish, “For the BTS ARMY and all the young people in Mexico, I have a proposal: Would you like to come back next year?” The members responded in unison with an enthusiastic, “Sí!”
While specific plans remain under wraps, the President noted that this initial meeting was just the beginning of their collaboration. Sheinbaum expressed deep gratitude toward South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, acknowledging that his diplomatic support was instrumental in coordinating the group’s high-profile visit.
The band’s presence in Mexico City has caused a massive stir. During their appearance at the Zócalo, the group addressed the local ARMY in both Spanish and English, creating an emotional, unforgettable moment for the thousands of fans in attendance.
This visit coincides with their highly anticipated ARIRANG tour, which includes three sold-out performances at GNP Seguros Stadium scheduled for May 7, 9, and 10. Organizers report that all 136,000 available tickets were snapped up almost instantly.
The President’s push to bring the group to Mexico has been a long-term effort; back in January, she formally requested additional concert dates from the South Korean government. Following a positive response and communication with their management company, HYBE, that dream became a reality this week.
BTS is currently touring in support of their latest album, ARIRANG, with the global trek expected to conclude in Manila on March 14, 2027.
