When the upcoming collaboration between Illumination and Nintendo arrives in theaters this April, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will thrust Mario, Luigi, and their loyal companion Yoshi into an interstellar conflict against a sludge-wielding Bowser Jr. However, a startling new plot leak suggests that the heir to the Koopa throne won’t be the only adversary the brothers encounter in this cinematic sequel.

According to an updated listing from the British cinema chain Everyman, the Mario brothers—along with Peach, Rosalina, and Toad—may have to contend with the debut of Wario as a secondary antagonist. As first highlighted by Nintendo Wire, the Everyman synopsis claims: “Fresh off their victory over Bowser in Brooklyn, Mario must now confront a sinister partnership between Wario and Bowser Jr. With the help of Yoshi and his allies, he must scramble to thwart their ambitions for cosmic dominance.”

The inclusion of Wario would be a massive revelation, as Nintendo and Illumination have maintained strict radio silence regarding the character. He hasn’t appeared in a single teaser, nor was he included in the initial wave of movie-themed merchandise—though those toys did effectively confirm the appearance of R.O.B. (Robotic Operating Buddy).

Interestingly, the description provided by Everyman is significantly more detailed than the boilerplate summary found on major sites like AMC, Regal, and Alamo Drafthouse, which generally states:

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a new animated adventure expanding on the iconic world of Super Mario Bros. It follows the 2023 blockbuster that grossed over $1.3 billion at the global box office. This sequel is produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, with Universal Pictures handling worldwide distribution. While unconfirmed, Wario’s presence isn’t outside the realm of possibility.
