Phil Spencer Congratulates Valve on Steam Machine Launch — Xbox Welcomes Competition

Valve has unveiled a new Steam Machine — a hybrid between a PC and a console that the company says is six times more powerful than the Steam Deck. One of the first to respond to the announcement was Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, who publicly voiced his support on X.

“The gaming industry thrives when players and creators have more ways to play and to build,” Spencer wrote. The comment echoes Xbox’s philosophy that games should be available across multiple devices and services, not locked to a single platform.

He reminded readers that Xbox is among the largest publishers on Steam and described Valve’s new console as a positive development for the sector. Rather than framing it as rivalry, he views it as a step toward a more open and convenient ecosystem for gamers.

More options are better, Spencer argued — whether those options are Xbox, PC, or Valve’s Steam Machine.

He also emphasized that Xbox’s mission is to expand choice, lower barriers, and make it easier for people to access games.

Price details and a release date for the Steam Machine have not yet been disclosed, but one thing is evident — Valve and Xbox appear to be moving in the same direction: making games more accessible to everyone.
