Paramount confident in success of upcoming ‘Sonic 4’ film, will increase production budget — insider

It looks like Sonic is gearing up for the most ambitious adventure in the history of his film adaptations.

The Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise remains one of Paramount’s most profitable properties, and insider Daniel Richtman reports the studio has decided to increase the budget for the fourth movie. According to his information, Paramount Pictures and SEGA plan to invest substantially more in this installment than in previous entries. That matches earlier indications of a broader storyline and more expansive visual effects.

A rising budget with each new Sonic feature has become the norm. The first movie (2020) cost roughly $85–90 million, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was estimated at $90–110 million, and the third installment ran to about $122 million. Industry analysts expect Sonic the Hedgehog 4 to exceed those figures and become the franchise’s most expensive production to date.

Early reports indicate the fourth film will draw inspiration from the game Sonic CD and will introduce characters such as Amy Rose and Metal Sonic. The storyline is reportedly set to explore themes of time travel.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is scheduled to premiere on March 19, 2027.
