Paradox Releases DOOM Mod for Hearts of Iron IV
Players can now do more than just stare at war planning maps.
The grand strategy game Hearts of Iron IV regularly receives official expansions alongside various fan-made modifications. While some mods expand and transform the game, others offer something entirely different.
Modder Yard1 recently released a mod that lets players experience the legendary shooter DOOM from inside Hearts of Iron IV. The current version gives players access to the complete first episode of DOOM (using the shareware version) as well as the first map from Freedoom.
The modder explained that he “implemented the entire DOOM engine (based on doomgeneric),” which technically allows players to run any WAD files compatible with doomgeneric.
However, he warned about a technical caveat: keyboard input in Hearts of Iron IV “is unstable, but the game is still fully playable.”
Yard1 published the appropriately named “DOOM” modification on the Steam Workshop page for Hearts of Iron IV, where players only need to subscribe to download the mod.
Yard1 also shared the source code of the “doomgeneric” project featuring his modifications in his GitHub repository.
