During her appearance on Saturday Night Live, Olivia Rodrigo offered a lighthearted recap of her career milestones and personal evolution.

On May 2, the 23-year-old pop icon stepped into the spotlight to handle dual duties as both the host and the musical performer for the iconic late-night program.

Opening the show, Rodrigo expressed that fronting SNL was a long-held ambition, though she couldn’t resist joking about the passage of time.

“I’ve always been a fan of the show. They say your definitive SNL cast is the one you grow up watching,” she shared, mentioning stars like Mikey Day, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, and Chloe Fineman. “My favorites actually came back this week just to support me. Isn’t that lovely?”

She also teased her upcoming record, poking fun at the shift in her titling strategy.

“After Sour and Guts, my next album is titled You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” she quipped. “I’ve expanded my vocabulary, everyone. Look at me!”

Her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, is slated for a June 12 release.

The “Drop Dead” singer also took a nostalgic look back at her tenure on the Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark, alongside former co-star Jake Paul.

“Back when I was 13, I starred on Bizaardvark with the acting legend Jake Paul,” she joked. “We used to discuss our dreams. I’d mention wanting to write music that captured the nuances of girlhood, and he’d tell me his goal was to punch older guys on Netflix.”

She leaned into the humor surrounding Paul’s 2024 boxing match with Mike Tyson, adding, “And somehow, we both fulfilled those dreams. Amazing!”

For her final act, Rodrigo delivered a clever reimagining of her breakthrough 2021 anthem, “Drivers License.” In this updated version, the focus shifted from teen heartbreak to the equally taxing reality of adult bureaucracy: obtaining a state ID.

“So much has changed since ‘Drivers License’ defined my teenage years. I thought I’d write a ballad about the most significant challenge I’ve faced lately,” she said before sitting at the piano.

“I finally applied for my Real ID, stood in line at the DMV, waited 14 hours, and provided nine documents just to prove I am me,” she sang to a cheering crowd.

Throughout the episode, Rodrigo stunned the audience with a performance of her hit “Drop Dead”—now her fourth No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100—and debuted her latest track, “Begged.”
