Olivia Rodrigo Felt ‘Spirits’ While Filming ‘obsessed’ Video at Palace of Versailles: ‘A Little Creepy’

It seems Olivia Rodrigo’s creative vision for her music videos might have inadvertently invited some centuries-old guests. During a recent shoot at France’s historic Palace of Versailles, the pop superstar couldn’t shake the feeling that she wasn’t entirely alone.

While discussing her latest work on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, Rodrigo admitted that filming the visual for her chart-topping single, “Drop Dead,” in the dead of night at the legendary museum felt genuinely unnerving. “It was undeniably eerie,” she confessed. “I’m inclined to believe in the supernatural, and honestly, if I were a ghost, the halls of Versailles seem like the perfect place to linger.”

She emphasized the atmosphere of the shoot, noting, “I absolutely sensed spirits present in those rooms.”

The “Drop Dead” music video, which premiered this past April, captures Rodrigo wandering through the opulent corridors, headphones on and guitar in hand. The decision to film in such an iconic location was a direct nod to the track’s lyrics, where she sings about a lover looking like “an angel on the walls of Versailles.”

“Securing permission to film there felt like a monumental win—it was surreal,” the singer shared. “It began as a total pipe dream; I never imagined I’d actually be standing there.”

“Drop Dead” serves as the powerful introduction to You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, Rodrigo’s third studio album, which arrived on June 12. She has since expanded the record’s visual world with music videos for “The Cure” and “Stupid Song.”
