Olivia Rodrigo Reflects on the “Powerful” Impact of Justin Bieber’s Coachella Performance

Olivia Rodrigo has emerged as one of Justin Bieber’s most vocal supporters following his standout headline performance at this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
During a conversation on the Audacy Check In podcast released this Thursday, the pop sensation shared her enthusiasm for the festival’s second weekend. After highlighting impressive sets by David Byrne and Nine Inch Nails, Rodrigo turned her attention to Bieber’s Saturday night finale. “I caught Bieber’s set, and it was truly epic—I absolutely loved it,” she told host Bru.
Reflecting on a specific highlight, Rodrigo noted how moved she was by the performance of Bieber’s breakthrough hit. “When he transitioned into ‘Baby,’ I felt like I was losing my mind,” she admitted. “His choice to incorporate a laptop setup was beautifully done; it felt like a poignant tribute to his younger self. Seeing footage of him as a child alongside the version of him on stage today—so happy and fulfilled—was incredibly powerful.”
Bieber’s Coachella appearance became an immediate talking point, particularly for the raw, nostalgic way he engaged with his digital history, cycling through archival YouTube clips while performing. The set also featured memorable collaborations, including a duet with SZA and an intimate moment serenading Billie Eilish.
Beyond the headliners, the festival served as a stage for collaboration. Rodrigo herself made a surprise appearance during Addison Rae’s set, joining her to perform “Drop Dead,” the lead single from Rae’s upcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, arriving June 12.
“Addison and I have been friends for ages,” Rodrigo explained. “She possesses such a clear creative vision and an infectious, positive energy. I’m thrilled to see her thriving. We keep in touch constantly, and when I suggested jumping on stage at Coachella, I told her, ‘This song feels so free and vibrant—it’s such an anthem for you.’ She was ecstatic about the idea.”
