OLED Displays Are Great for Gaming — How Do They Hold Up on PC? Burn-In Test After Nearly Two Years

While OLED panels are outstanding for gaming and films, they handle static elements less effectively. Over a 21-month period, the Monitors Unboxed team evaluated whether modern OLED monitors and TVs are suitable for office work.

An editor deliberately tried to induce burn-in on the MSI MPG 321URX with its QD-OLED panel by using it exclusively with static windows and applications. The trial accumulated more than 5,000 hours.

Panel degradation became visible only on gray and dark fills during the second minute of the recording. The split-screen appearance is linked to Windows 10’s window-snap feature.

The change is minimal: after 21 months the display lost about 2% of its peak SDR brightness — declining from 243 to 238 nits.

In everyday use these differences are imperceptible. The team even notes that OLEDs can become more resilient under prolonged static workloads. According to Monitors Unboxed, gamers using OLED displays would likely need years before any degradation becomes noticeable.
