No Man’s Sky 10th Anniversary Update Completely Overhauls Space Itself

No Man’s Sky is rapidly evolving into a comprehensive gaming ecosystem that feels like multiple genres rolled into one.

Over the past year alone, Hello Games has introduced a gravity-manipulation tool for dismantling and launching wreckage, rolled out a robust, creature-taming system reminiscent of classic monster-battling RPGs, and consistently delivered major expansions that elevate the experience far beyond its decade-old launch. Now, the developer is taking its most ambitious leap yet by completely reimagining the interstellar void itself.

Launching Wednesday to coincide with the milestone 10th anniversary, the Cosmos update ranks among the most substantial patches in the title’s history. Unlike previous updates that primarily enriched planetary surfaces, this release targets the vast expanses between worlds—an environment the developers note has remained largely untouched since day one.

What’s new in the Cosmos update?

Cosmos revitalizes deep space by introducing a revamped star map filled with distinct points of interest, colossal space hulks ripe for salvage operations, novel outpost variants, organic derelicts, and dense asteroid fields brimming with rich materials. Some of these newly added asteroids are even massive enough to support structural foundations and permanent bases.

Additionally, players can now construct orbital stations anywhere in the cosmos. These structures allow architects to design floating dining establishments, strategic military outposts, or cozy roadside waystations, all while gazing down at breathtaking planetary vistas.

Furthermore, No Man’s Sky is finally granting adventurers the ability to purchase and fully claim individual space stations. These properties can be meticulously customized inside and out, functioning as personal command centers or social hubs for friends. Users can even form formal alliances, collaborate to establish sprawling station networks, and contend for top spots on fresh community leaderboards.
