Nintendo’s New Mobile Game Pictonico Turns Your Photos Into Silly Minigames

Nintendo's Pictonico mobile game interface

Nintendo has officially pulled back the curtain on Pictonico, an inventive new mobile title set to arrive next week. This whimsical party game breathes new life into your personal photo library by transforming your images into chaotic, WarioWare-inspired minigames.

The announcement trailer showcases the app’s playful potential; for instance, a standard portrait might be repurposed into an interactive challenge where you drag corn to a subject’s mouth, or a photo of a friend could become a backdrop for a slapstick game involving crabs pinching their cheeks. “Rediscover your favorite memories in a completely new light,” Nintendo notes. “Watch as your photos are reimagined through zombie-themed survival, eccentric costume changes, carnival-style hurdles, and much more.” Beyond the core experience, the app includes a high-stakes Score Attack mode, a board-game-style progression challenge, and even a lighthearted fortune-telling feature.

While Pictonico is described as “free-to-start,” it is important to note how this structure functions. While the initial download is free, the base version acts more as a robust demo, granting access to only three minigames. To unlock the full library of 80 minigames, players must purchase additional “game volumes.” At this time, Nintendo has not disclosed the specific pricing for these packs or the total number of volumes planned for release.

Pictonico makes its debut on iOS and Android devices on May 28, with pre-registration now open for interested players.
