Nintendo Reveals Release Date for Pokémon Pokopia and New Physical Edition Format

Nintendo has confirmed the release date for the Pokémon life-simulation title Pokemon Pokopia, developed by Omega Force, for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The game is scheduled for release on March 5, 2026, in both digital and physical formats and is already available for pre-order on the Nintendo eShop for $69.99.

The physical edition will be sold as a Game-key Card — an empty cartridge that contains only a download key for retrieving the game from the internet. Once installed, players can play offline, but the card must remain inserted in the console. This will be Nintendo’s first use of this distribution method.

In Japan, pre-orders for the boxed edition begin on November 13, 2025. A 10-minute gameplay video will be released the same day. Despite the new cartridge format, Pokemon Pokopia promises a full life-sim experience, immersing players in a world rich with Pokémon interactions and picturesque locations.

Nintendo notes that the new physical format may elicit mixed reactions from Switch 2 owners, but says it reduces cartridge size and streamlines the update process.
