Nintendo has launched a dedicated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond page to help newcomers familiarize themselves with the series ahead of its release on December 4, 2025.

Nintendo has published a special informational page for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond — the new chapter in the acclaimed series, arriving on December 4, 2025 for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

The feature gathers essential information: a concise history of the franchise, the differences between the classic 2D Metroid games and the 3D Metroid Prime titles, the premise of Beyond, and summaries of new mechanics and technical capabilities.

Nintendo stresses that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be the first entirely new mainline entry in 18 years — since Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Developers note that prior knowledge of earlier titles isn’t necessary. The game opens a fresh storyline that begins with a crash at a Galactic Federation research facility. After the disaster, Samus Aran and several soldiers find themselves stranded on the mysterious planet Bairus, where they must unite to find a way home. Players will traverse diverse biomes — from jungles and deserts to industrial zones awash with lava.

Nintendo provides a detailed overview of gameplay: first-person exploration, object scanning, environmental investigation, and combat encounters. As before, success relies on skillful use of Samus’s abilities, including a new psychic power that enables her to activate mechanisms remotely. Special attention is given to the “Viola” bike, which speeds up travel across vast areas and grants unique combat maneuvers.

The company also outlined difficulty settings. For newcomers there’s a “Casual” mode — enemies have less health and Samus takes reduced damage. “Normal” maintains a balance between exploration and combat, true to the series’ classic entries. After completing the game on Normal difficulty, players can challenge themselves in “Hard,” where foes are more lethal and resources are scarcer.

Nintendo has added expanded personalization options: players can adjust stick and mouse sensitivity (the Switch 2 version supports a mode in which a Joy-Con functions like a mouse), and modify screen brightness and audio levels.
