Bloomberg reports that the company has instructed suppliers to produce up to 25 million Nintendo Switch 2 units by the end of March 2026. If achieved, this would be one of the strongest console launches on record, outpacing both the firm’s internal forecasts and analysts’ expectations.
Analysts had earlier projected roughly 17.6 million units sold by March 2026, but internal estimates suggest Nintendo is positioned to move about 20 million units. A few million consoles will carry over into the next fiscal year, helping to maintain market availability.
The company’s strategy leans on the Switch 2’s blockbuster debut, which has already broken global records. In the U.S., 2.4 million units sold in the first three months—surpassing the PS4’s 2.2 million—making it the fastest-selling console in the country’s history. According to Circana, this also helped U.S. video game spending rise 11% to $4.7 billion in August 2025.
Worldwide the console has posted impressive results: 3.5 million sold in the first four days, more than 5 million by the end of the first month, and 5.82 million by June 30, 2025. Sales topped 6 million by the end of July, and August solidified the Switch 2’s position as the market’s fastest-selling console.
