Nintendo has launched an official website that lets users check which original Switch games are supported on the Switch 2.
The service includes an intuitive search: simply enter a game’s title to see its compatibility status. For example, Super Mario Galaxy carries the label “Supported — game behavior matches the Nintendo Switch version,” indicating it runs reliably without errors or performance loss. The site was created to remove uncertainty around backward compatibility and to make the move to the Switch 2 easier for players.
The console launched in June 2025 and retains nearly full support for the previous generation’s library. All cartridges and digital purchases from the Nintendo eShop are available after transferring your account. Nintendo achieved this through a mix of software and hardware solutions that improved load times, frame-rate stability, and image clarity for many older titles without requiring individual updates.
Some titles are not supported yet. These are mainly games that use specialized controller features or accessories — for example, Nintendo Labo and Ring Fit Adventure. The company says it is collaborating with developers to resolve these incompatibilities through updates.
