Next Sonic Movie to Take a Nostalgic Turn and Feature Characters from the Classic Game — Insider

The Sonic the Hedgehog film universe has emerged as one of the most successful adaptations of recent years. Its three entries proved to be box-office hits, and Paramount is pressing ahead. Production on Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is underway, with a planned release in 2027.

According to a recent report from insider Daniel Richtman, the studio may take an unexpected turn. Instead of the straightforward title Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the movie could be rebranded as Sonic CD — a direct nod to the 1990s game. Insiders say the choice might have narrative purpose: Amy Rose and Metal Sonic — characters first introduced in Sonic CD — are reportedly set to appear. That move would be a treat for nostalgic fans, though it could leave younger viewers puzzled by the reference.

So far there has been no official confirmation. Sonic CD may simply be a working title during production. Paramount is continuing to expand the franchise, exploring potential spin-offs and additional sequels. Many fans argue a title change isn’t necessary, since the proven formula has already delivered success.
