Croteam Raises Price of The Talos Principle 2 Three Years After Release

Not everyone is ready to take this in stride.

Players recently revisited The Talos Principle 2, but the occasion is not a happy one. Developer Croteam announced its decision to raise the price of the game.

The puzzle game developers explained that the increase is due to rising development costs:

Starting today, the base price of The Talos Principle 2 is increasing from $29.99 to $39.99, and regional pricing has been adjusted accordingly. Over recent years, the costs of developing and supporting games have risen significantly, with inflation driving up expenses worldwide. In light of this, we have made the decision to adjust the game’s base price. This was not an easy decision, and we understand that no one likes to see price increases. We wanted to explain the reasons behind this change rather than just changing the price without any explanation.

Notably, The Talos Principle 2 was released in early November 2023. Some players rejected the developers’ decision and expressed the opinion that “prices for older games should go down, not up”:

Very poor move. Prices for older games should go down, not up. If you need to cover costs, just set a higher price for your next game. Besides, raising the price in a situation where you regularly had sales with a 75% discount, and recently with a 90% discount, simply makes no sense. In my opinion, you need to fire your CFO — Thalandor.

However, some users understand the developers’ decision. In their view, the creators were selling the game too cheaply before:

Honestly, the initial price for TTP2 was an absolute steal—I was pleasantly surprised it was so low. And now, with the introduction of level editors, it makes total sense to raise the base price—no one can really blame you for that (not to mention that during sales, the price will still drop by 75% or 80%) — Kewnter44.

Croteam is currently developing Serious Sam: The Third Encounter.
