Steam has introduced a long‑awaited feature — currently in beta but with considerable promise. It adds a chat warning system designed to help shield users from scams.
If the system flags a conversation partner as potentially suspicious, a notification will appear. All links in the chat will be disabled until the user acknowledges that they’ve seen the warning.
Clicking links sent by strangers can be risky. This new safeguard is especially valuable for younger players who may not yet have developed a healthy skepticism toward dubious messages.
The feature is available in beta for now but is expected to roll out to all users soon. The update also refined Xbox 360 controller button mappings and resolved an issue that prevented some games from launching immediately after purchase.
If someone sends links promising free skins or directs you to third‑party sites, it’s safer not to follow them. To participate in beta testing of experimental features, open Settings → Interface → Steam Beta Update and opt into the beta client.
