Blizzard Announces Diablo Adaptation Eight Years After Initial Reports
Blizzard has confirmed that an animated series set in the Diablo universe is in development in partnership with Netflix.
Blizzard President Johanna Faris limited her initial announcement to the project without sharing any details:
“A new animated series in the Diablo universe is in development in partnership with Netflix. We will share details later, but this is only the beginning.”

The first reports regarding a similar project surfaced eight years ago in 2018. At that time, Hellboy writer and Boom! Studios co-founder Andrew Cosby stated that he was in final negotiations to work on the Netflix series as a writer and showrunner, though Blizzard did not make an official announcement then.
Former Activision Blizzard Studios co-president Nick van Dyke spoke about the project again in 2020. According to him, the Diablo animated series was in pre-production. Very little news about the adaptation has emerged since then. It remains unknown whether the current series is connected to the project reported several years ago or if Cosby is still involved in its development. Audiences must wait for official details.
