New Spider-Man Video Details Easter Egg Secrets

Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day stands as the biggest movie of 2026. It defies superhero fatigue by becoming the top domestic box-office hit in U.S. history and earning $2.5 billion globally. The film features a gripping story with popular Marvel heroes and a tragic villain in iconic X-Men character Jean Grey, played by Sadie Sink. That success kept the film in theaters for 70 days before arriving on video-on-demand platforms on Oct. 6. The digital version includes special features that also appear in the physical releases coming Dec. 15.

Polygon can exclusively reveal one of those extra features, titled “Live-Action Comics.” The featurette shows how Destin Daniel Cretton and stunt coordinator Peng Zhang replicated classic Marvel Comics covers in live action. Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, faces several villains at the beginning of the film. His battle with Tombstone, played by Marvin Jones III, derives from the cover of the 1988 Spectacular Spider-Man comic by Gerry Conway and Sal Buscema. Meanwhile, the fight with Scorpion, played by Michael Mando, draws inspiration from Alex Saviuk’s art in a 1995 issue of Spider-Man Adventures.

Destin Daniel Cretton had giant printouts of the images made and mounted on easels so he could brainstorm how to recreate them on camera. Sometimes those fights turned playful, with Spider-Man ending his brawl against Scorpion by smacking him with a piano pulled from a nearby moving truck.

“What was fun about these comic book covers was looking at the image and then trying to imagine what happened before and after this snapshot,” Destin Daniel Cretton says in the short.
