New DLC Released for The Long Dark
Developer Hinterland has released the major Iron Road expansion for The Long Dark, featuring steam locomotives and new regions, alongside an announcement that Blackfrost: The Long Dark 2 will launch in early access in 2027.
Players waited nearly five years for the conclusion of The Long Dark story campaign. The finale arrived in April via a free update, and studio Hinterland continues to develop the game.
Iron Road has launched in early access. The expansion currently allows players to explore roughly 30 kilometers of railway tracks, which developers plan to expand to over 100 kilometers. Additional route sections and four islands for exploration will arrive in the coming months. The DLC expands on one of the most interesting themes from the final chapters of the original game, which involves traveling by steam locomotive.
Following the release of Iron Road, The Long Dark climbed to 15th place on the Steam bestseller chart and sat at 33rd at the time of publication. Concurrently, Hinterland is working on the sequel Blackfrost: The Long Dark 2, which is scheduled to launch in early access in 2027.
