New KPop Demon Hunter Book Receives Exclusive Preview

From the moment KPop Demon Hunters debuted on Netflix in 2025, fans wanted to know everything about the Huntr/x trio. They are global pop stars by day and demon-slaying heroes by night. The main story centers on Rumi and her struggle with her demonic heritage alongside her growing friendship with Jinu. Yet the true heart of KPop Demon Hunters lies in the bond between Rumi, Mira, and Zoey.

The trio unites to use their songs and fame to restore the Honmoon, which is a magical barrier protecting the world from demons. However, the exact nature of the relationship between the members of Huntr/x did not receive full exploration in the film. The Art of KPop Demon Hunters by Tracy Miller-Zarneke, published by Random House Worlds, explores the animated film’s characters, relationships, and backgrounds in depth.

The 144-page book features over 500 pieces of concept art accompanied by commentary from writers, directors, artists, and animators. It provides insight into every creative choice by drawing from real-life family stories, K-pop idol groups, anime, and Korean mythology.

“HUNTR/X serves as a family of sorts, especially for Rumi, filling a gap that was ripped open when her warrior mother was killed, at a time when Rumi was just a baby,” notes Maggie Kang, who is the writer and director of KPop Demon Hunters. “The trio each come from broken families, lonely upbringings, where they never felt like they truly belonged anywhere, and so they really need this group to be their safe place.”

The friendship between the three women forms the core of the film. Rumi can stay true to herself by the end only through the acceptance of Zoey and Mira. Kang and the creators find fulfillment in showing how the love between the trio stems from their troubled pasts.
