While the highly anticipated Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dream took center stage during today’s milestone Dragon Quest anniversary broadcast, the celebration offered a few more surprises. Fans of the long-running RPG series were treated to the unveiling of a brand-new Dragon Quest Monsters title and confirmation that the franchise’s latest mainline entry is heading to the Switch 2.
The stream concluded with an atmospheric teaser for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World. This upcoming adventure features dual protagonists Bianca and Nera—iconic characters returning from Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. While specific gameplay mechanics and narrative details remain under wraps, Square Enix confirmed the title is “coming soon” to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Switch, and the upcoming Switch 2. Additionally, the critically acclaimed Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is set to arrive on the Switch 2 on September 24. This expanded iteration of the 2018 classic features a wealth of added content, including exclusive story chapters and the nostalgic ability to swap between 2D and 3D perspectives. To make the most of the new hardware, this version will also include dedicated Graphics and Performance modes.
