The Vaults Creak Open: Marathon’s Cryo Archive Debuts Following Community ARG Triumph
Since its arrival on March 5, Bungie’s high-stakes extraction shooter, Marathon, has transformed Tau Ceti IV into a frantic battleground of scavenging and survival. However, the most dedicated “Runners” have been preoccupied with a clandestine, community-wide ARG. After weeks of tireless collaboration and the collective elimination of 500 million UESC hostiles, the mystery has finally been unraveled. The massive Marathon vessel adrift in the atmosphere is now boardable, granting players access to the Cryo Archive—an endgame gauntlet that serves as Bungie’s extraction-focused evolution of the Destiny raid formula.
The Cryo Archive officially opens its airlocks tomorrow, Friday, March 20. Players will be challenged to navigate its eerie, derelict corridors, fending off UESC security and rival players alike. Veterans of the franchise may find a familiar nightmare waiting in the shadows: the Compiler. This iconic S’pht adversary from the original 1990s trilogy makes a menacing appearance in today’s launch trailer, suggesting that a confrontation with this entity is the final hurdle before a successful exfiltration.
