James Marsden, the actor behind the iconic Cyclops, recently confessed that he deeply felt the absence of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine while filming Avengers: Doomsday. He remarked that within the X-Men cinematic universe, the core of Cyclops’ development was intrinsically tied to his relationship with Logan. Their perennial rivalry acted as a catalyst, providing a narrative weight that helped define both characters.
Marsden noted that stepping back into his superhero persona after so many years was a significant challenge without Jackman. He found himself missing the friction, the playful banter, and the sharp-witted exchanges that were staples of the “brotherly” bond between Cyclops and Wolverine.
It is worth noting that Wolverine appears to be one of the few legendary X-Men characters absent from the upcoming Avengers ensemble. The film’s roster already boasts a star-studded lineup of mutants, including Professor X, Magneto, Mystique, Nightcrawler, Beast, and even Gambit.
