On October 26th, three days ahead of its national release, the FILM.ru Film Club will host an exclusive screening of “Fjord,” the masterpiece that claimed the Palme d’Or at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.

The narrative explores the harrowing legal battle between a devout, large family and the Norwegian child protective services. The lead roles are portrayed by Academy Award nominees Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve.

“Fjord” marks Cristian Mungiu’s inaugural English-language feature and serves as the second project in the acclaimed Romanian director’s career to be honored with the prestigious Palme d’Or.

About the film:

The Georgiu family relocates to Norway, the homeland of Lisbet. With five children in tow, she and her Romanian husband, Mihai, hope that the support of her relatives will make settling in easier. Initially, the Georgius—practicing Evangelicals with traditional values—are well-received by their neighbors. However, the situation turns dire when local school teachers discover signs of corporal punishment on one of their daughters, placing the entire family under the intense scrutiny of social services.

Following the screening, a panel discussion will be held featuring FILM.ru’s Editor-in-Chief Nastasia Gorbachevskaya and Special Projects Editor Naya Guseva.

Tickets are available for purchase on the cinema’s website.
