New Avatar Series Starring Fan-Favorite Cult Characters

If you have ever watched Avatar: The Last Airbender and yearned for a narrative spotlight on Suki and her elite squad of fighters, your patience is about to be rewarded.

In a creative synergy with Avatar Studios and original series masterminds Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Dark Horse Comics has announced Avatar: The Last Airbender — Kyoshi Warriors. While Suki and her sisters-in-arms were pivotal recurring figures throughout the show’s three-season run, dedicated fans have long campaigned for an expansion of their specific lore.

This upcoming series features striking cover art by Danielle Weires and is penned by author Brandon Hoáng (The Crossbow of Destiny). The visual storytelling is brought to life by illustrators BellBessa (Ramen Rumble) and Xanthe Bouma, with vibrant colors by Adele Matera and lettering from Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt. The plot follows the warriors as they venture beyond the safety of their island to join the global resistance against the Fire Nation’s expansion.

The transition to the mainland proves arduous for the Kyoshi Warriors, who encounter deep-seated skepticism and resentment from those they seek to protect. As they struggle to establish their legitimacy within the Earth Kingdom’s military hierarchy, a high-stakes opportunity presents itself. Whether the group can overcome internal friction and external prejudice to seize this moment remains the core tension of the tale.

Based on the official synopsis, the series appears to be set during the events of the show’s second season, coinciding with Team Avatar’s journey to find an Earthbending master. While it is currently unknown if Aang, Katara, or Sokka will make an appearance, the focus remains firmly on Suki’s leadership, suggesting that the main protagonists of the original series may only feature in brief cameos.

The story will be released as a three-issue monthly miniseries, with the debut installment hitting shelves this May. Each 22-page issue will be priced at $4.99.
