Netflix is preparing films, TV series and games based on the board game “Catan”

The board game centered on settlement-building and resource trading will be adapted into multiple formats, from animated productions to live-action films.

Netflix has struck an exclusive agreement with game publisher Asmodee and is assembling a slate of projects based on the popular board game Catan: Settlers. The streaming giant announced a lineup of films, series, and games drawing on the title’s core mechanics — strategy, trading, construction, and player interaction.

“We appreciate the significance of this undertaking. We decided to pool our resources to demonstrate to Asmodee the full range of Netflix’s capabilities across series, feature films, animation, and games. Longtime Catan fans will be thrilled, and newcomers will finally grasp just how pivotal trading sheep can be.”
Jinny Hau, Head of Series, Netflix U.S. & Canada

The initiatives will be led by Darren Kiman from Asmodee, Pete Fenlon of Catan Studio, and Guido and Benjamin Teuber, sons of the game’s creator Klaus Teuber. Notably, Netflix has previously partnered with Asmodee to produce an animated series and a mobile game based on the board game Exploding Kittens. No specific details about the new adaptations have been released so far.
