Miley Cyrus offered an upbeat update about her godmother Dolly Parton while attending the Los Angeles premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 1. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Cyrus emphasized Parton’s resilience and eagerness to return to performing.
“The show must go on,” Cyrus told Entertainment Tonight, adding that Parton is excited to get back to work.
Parton, 79, postponed the Las Vegas residency that had been scheduled to begin at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace after undergoing undisclosed medical procedures. The residency — originally set to launch this December — has been pushed to 2026.
In early October, facing swirling online rumors about her condition, the Country Music Hall of Famer addressed fans directly in a video message. “I don’t think God is through with me and I ain’t done workin’,” Parton said on October 8, reassuring supporters that she was okay.
The two share a longtime personal and professional relationship. Genealogy research from Ancestry.com revealed a distant familial connection in 2024, and Parton famously appeared as “Aunt Dolly” on Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana. The pair also collaborated on a reimagined duet of Miley’s hit “Wrecking Ball” for Parton’s 2023 album, Rockstar.
Cyrus, 33, attended the Avatar: Fire and Ash premiere with her fiancé, musician Maxx Morando. She recently confirmed their engagement and contributed the song “Dream as One” to the film’s soundtrack; she showed a gold band on her left ring finger at the event. The couple began dating in 2021, several years after Cyrus’s marriage to Liam Hemsworth ended.
