Microsoft Urges Owners of Unused Xbox Series X|S Consoles to Trade Them In Amid Rising Prices
Microsoft has started emailing owners of unused Xbox Series X|S consoles and recommending that they trade in their devices. A Series X could fetch $375. The company points users to trade-in programs and shares instructions on how to complete them.
The Microsoft emails specifically mention the US retailer Best Buy, which offers a trade-in program for gaming hardware. According to user reports, the emails appear aimed mostly at people who have not used their console in a long time or who own several devices.
The initiative is linked to difficult conditions in the console market. Manufacturers face limited supplies of components, rising hardware costs, and economic instability. Passing unused consoles on to new owners may help expand the base of active players and increase revenue from game sales and digital services.
