Micron Warns of RAM Shortage and High Prices Through 2028
Micron has almost completely sold out the memory it plans to produce in 2027 at prices significantly higher than current rates.
Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra warned that the global RAM shortage will persist until at least 2028 because demand will continue to outstrip manufacturer capabilities.
According to Mehrotra, Micron has already practically sold the entire volume of memory scheduled for production in 2027 at prices substantially higher than 2026 levels. Demand will exceed supply throughout 2027 and 2028, and the company does not yet see a point when the market will reach a balance.

Micron will open new factories in 2028, but that does not guarantee a rapid improvement in memory availability or lower prices. At the same time, demand for HBM is growing significantly faster than for regular DRAM, which is why the company is trying to increase HBM revenue.
Driven by high demand and rising prices, Micron’s revenue grew by 83% over the past three months, while its DRAM division increased by 90%. SSD sales approached $10 billion.
