It appears the platforming legend is finally set to grace modern hardware in the very near future.
Michel Ancel, the visionary creator behind the Rayman series, has seemingly validated long-standing rumors regarding a revival of the original title. In a recent interview with Retro Gamer magazine marking the franchise’s 30th anniversary, he mentioned that Ubisoft is currently developing “something akin to a remake” of the 1995 classic.
This marks the second major indicator of the game’s return in recent weeks. On January 22, a listing for “Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition” surfaced in Australian age rating databases, specifically targeting the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
These developments align with claims made by industry insider Tom Henderson last September, who reported that Ubisoft was working on both a reimagined version of the first game and an entirely new entry. However, based on Ancel’s latest comments, the project may lean more toward a high-definition remaster featuring modern refinements rather than a full-scale, ground-up reconstruction.
While an official announcement has yet to be made, Ubisoft previously indicated that the 30th-anniversary festivities would be substantial and long-lasting. Despite the company’s recent internal restructuring, the timing of the age rating suggests that the Rayman project remains a priority and is likely on track for a release later this year.
