"Michael," the biopic chronicling the life of the "King of Pop" Michael Jackson, has officially surpassed the $500 million mark at the global box office, reaching a total of $577.3 million.
The film has pulled in $336.8 million from international markets. Domestically, it grossed $240.4 million, establishing it as the highest-earning musical biopic in the United States. Globally, that record remains held by "Bohemian Rhapsody," which earned $911 million.
The titular role is portrayed by the artist’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, with Antoine Fuqua ("The Equalizer") serving as director. While critics have offered a tepid response to the film (holding a 39% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), Lionsgate is reportedly already exploring the possibility of a sequel.
"Michael" is scheduled to premiere in Russian theaters on May 28, distributed by Volga.
