Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy (“Bridesmaids”, “The Little Mermaid”) will headline the screen adaptation of the children’s book Miss Nelson Is Missing (1977), Deadline reports.
The film will be produced by Netflix. Harry Allard’s tale follows the mysterious disappearance of schoolteacher Miss Nelson — who, determined to teach her misbehaving students a lesson, returns in disguise as the formidable substitute teacher Viola Swamp.
McCarthy is set to play both roles and will also serve as a producer. The screenplay was adapted by Brad Copeland (“Ferdinand”, “Jerry & Marge Go Large”). Reese Witherspoon is listed among the project’s producers.
