It is not every day that a celebrity wedding garners attention from a city official, but then again, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are no ordinary couple. During a press briefing this Monday (June 15), New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani appeared to lend weight to ongoing speculation, suggesting the pair might be preparing to wed in the city over the upcoming Fourth of July holiday as he outlined local preparations for major events.
While discussing the city’s safety strategy for July 5—a date set for a major FIFA match at MetLife Stadium in neighboring East Rutherford, N.J.—the mayor expressed his enthusiasm. “I have complete faith in the NYPD and our state partners to ensure a seamless and safe experience,” Mamdani stated. “As the nation’s largest city, we are well-versed in hosting high-profile events, and we are eagerly anticipating this one.”
“We are aware that this weekend aligns with July 4th, America’s 250th anniversary, and Taylor Swift’s wedding,” he added with a lighthearted grin. “We are thrilled to welcome the world to our city.”
When asked if he had secured an invitation to the star-studded affair, the mayor laughed off the question. “No and no,” he replied. “I wish them a beautiful celebration. I’ll be listening to ‘Only the Young’ from the comfort of my own home.”
Billboard has reached out to representatives for both Swift and Kelce for comment.
A spokesperson for the Mayor’s office later clarified that Mamdani’s remarks were based on recent media reports suggesting that the pop icon had filed for a permit at Madison Square Garden for the holiday weekend, potentially for a wedding ceremony. To date, neither Swift nor Kelce has confirmed the specific venue or date for their nuptials, though both have previously shared their genuine excitement about their future together.
Reflecting on her future plans with Graham Norton last year, Swift admitted she anticipates the planning process will be a joy, noting she hopes to invite everyone she has ever known. Meanwhile, Kelce has dropped hints regarding a summer ceremony; with the Chiefs’ training camp looming in late July, the window for a summer wedding is rapidly narrowing.
